Developing & Sustaining a Factory Floor to Space Enterprise

Developing & Sustaining a Factory Floor to Space Enterprise

June 8, 2022 from 9:00 am to 9:45 am

Speaker: Steven MacLaird, OMG

The speaker will address why architectural frameworks, standards and systems engineering are key in delivering Developing & Sustaining a Factory Floor to Space Enterprise. Those architectures and frameworks must be capable of responding to known and unknown threats in a timely manner at the right response levels. Architectures, frameworks and standards critically aide in domestic and multi-national efforts to deploy capabilities that are interoperable, scalable, repetitive or unique, validated and are easily modified through MBSE. SysML and UML models permit Machine to Machine (M2M) speeds to create digital twins that incorporate much of the standards building in OMG’s Meta Object Facility (MOF) fabric process. The ability to work with other organizations to ensure the movement of big data from the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) through the cloud is cyber secure are enabled by CORBA and DDS standards. DDS enhances the new UAF that applies SysML to DoD’s Architecture Framework (DoDAF) v2.2. NATO has embraced UAF as the architecture of choice and OMG is currently in the final phase of realizing UAF as an ISO standard. These OMG standards coupled with OMG’s cyber security standards and several vertical task force uniquely focused standards allow a solid foundation to the future and support DoD’s Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA).  Additionally, the importance of how Digital Twins and Augmented Reality capabilities aide in the design, workspace, training and field support will be addressed.

Speaker Bio:

As Senior Vice President, Steve’s primary focus is to support the OMG government activities. Secondary focus is business development for the other OMG communities including the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC™) and the Consortium for Information & Software Quality™ (CISQ™), Digital Twin Consortium® (DTC®), and the Data Distribution Service (DDS®) Foundation®, along with other duties.
